Director of Communications
New England Revolution
Lizz Summers is in her seventh season with the Revolution, and her sixth in her current position, having joined the club at the start of the 2006 season.
In her current role as the Director of Communications, she develops and oversees the team’s media relations, public relations, corporate communications, and social media strategies, and also directs the club's community relations efforts in conjunction with the New England Revolution Charitable Foundation. She also assists with the team’s branding and digital strategy efforts.
Summers has expanded the breadth of the Revs' communications department, including integrating Revolution content with Revs and national broadcast partners, launching new online and multimedia initiatives and creating local-level promotional strategies for the club’s ticketing and marketing programming, as well as the club’s youth development program. In the community, Summers has initiated new programming and partnerships to promote health, fitness and overall wellness in both the youth and young professional age brackets, and has created on-going opportunities for the club’s supporters and sponsors to become more involved in the community hand-in-hand with the team.
Additionally, Summers served as the press officer for the MLS All-Star team in both 2007 and 2008, accompanying the Revolution technical and training staffs to the game.
Summers came to the Revs after three seasons as an assistant director of media relations at The University of Texas, where she handled all of the publicity needs for several of the school's top-ranked athletic programs and several internationally-recognized student-athletes. She also assisted with press operations for football and men's and women's basketball.
Before UT, Summers worked for four years at Boston College - including two years as an assistant media relations director - handling several of the school’s athletic programs, including the women’s basketball team and men's hockey team during its 2001 NCAA Championship run.
During her seven years in collegiate athletics, Summers directed media efforts and press operations for numerous NCAA, Big East and Big 12 Conference championships. She has also earned many national awards for her annual team publications and collateral.
A native of Somerset, Mass., Summers earned her undergraduate degree in economics and communication from Boston College, and her MBA in strategic marketing from BC in 2009.
