On this day in 1982, Revolution midfielder Clyde Simms was born in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Clyde shares his birthday with such notable names as Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt, "The Gambler" Kenny Rogers, actress Hayden Panettiere, NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain, and actresses Kim Cattrall and Carrie Ann Moss.

Pro Boxer and friend of the Revolution Danny O'Connor made the media rounds last Friday to promote his first-ever boxing match at Gillette Stadium - taking place immediately following the Revs vs. Montreal Impact match this Sunday night. Danny stopped by NECN to chat about being a Revs fan, fighting outdoors and more, along with manager Ken Casey. Get tickets here!

Updated 8/8 - Danny also stopped by NESN on Tuesday afternoon to promote the event, and can be seen wearing some sweet Midnight Riders and NE Rebellion swag.

If you haven't heard by now, Gillette Stadium will host its first-ever boxing match on Sunday, August 12 immediately following the Revolution vs. Montreal Impact match (7 p.m. kickoff). Ahead of this soccer-boxing doubleheader a week from this Sunday, the star of the show, Danny O'Connor, stopped by Revolution training today with manager Ken Casey (also of The Dropkick Murphys) and boxing legend Micky Ward ("The Fighter") to chat with the Revs and scope out the stadium. Here are some photos and video from today's visit.

Although the opening ceremonies in London take place tomorrow night, men’s Olympic soccer began today with New England Revolution’s Jerry Bengtson featuring for Honduras in its opening match against Morocco. Bengtson scored both goals for his National Team in the 2-2 draw, the first men’s soccer match of the 30th Olympiad.

Bengtson scored his first goal in the 56th minute, equalizing for Honduras during the run of play. He then converted a penalty kick in the 65th minute to give the Central American team a brief lead, before Morocco leveled the score two minutes later.

The 25-year old was one of three overage players selected by Honduras for the Under-23 tournament. Bengtson signed with the Revolution on July 5 and scored his first career goal in his Revolution- and MLS-debuts on July 8 against the New York Red Bulls, before the club granted him permission to join the Olympic team on July 16.

Honduras is in Group D of the tournament and will next play Spain on Sunday, July 29 at 7 a.m. ET, ahead of the Revolution’s match against the Philadelphia Union, which will be televised nationally on the NBC Sports Network at 7 p.m. Honduras will then play Japan in its third and final group game on Wednesday, Aug. 1 at 12 p.m. ET.

We have good news and bad news: Good news - We have a podcast this week. Bad news - Our 50th episode of "The Far Post Podcast" will have to wait one more week, as Cathal had a prior commitment.

So, we called up Revs' beat writer Kyle McCarthy, who is currently in Philly for tonight's All-Star game festivites and talked soccer for 25 minutes.
