The Revs have three matches left and may be able to play spoiler in their final home match of 2012 on Saturday, October 20 at Gillette Stadium against the Chicago Fire. The Revs put out the Fire 2-0 back on June 2 at Gillette, with Benny Feilhaber and Kelyn Rowe leading the charge with a goal and assist apiece (Recap).

This is a game you don’t want to miss, and you can get tickets here.

Work to be done

Let’s not get ahead ourselves, however, as there is work to be done this weekend. The Revolution heads to Philadelphia to take on the Union at PPL Park on Saturday (7 p.m. kickoff). The Revs will be looking for their first win at PPL Park (0-1-2 all-time), having dropped a 2-1 decision to the Union back on July 29. Meanwhile, the Fire travels to New York to take on the Red Bulls in a huge, nationally-televised match on NBC at 3:30 p.m. at Red Bull Arena. Before all of this, Chicago and Philadelphia square off this Wednesday night at Toyota Park. The Fire will be looking to move ahead of New York in the standings, where both teams currently sit at 53 points – but if they don’t …

Put out the Fire?

I write this from my desk at Gillette Stadium, but as a Revs fan it goes without saying that I don’t want to root for either team in the NBC matchup.  In this case, however, I am pulling for New York . As dirty and unnatural as it feels, a New York win puts the Revs in a great position to play spoiler on October 20, as nothing is locked up in the East. And how much more fun would that be – a must-win for the Fire in front of another expected great crowd at Gillette? Will make for an interesting Saturday, that’s for sure.

We're scoreless after a rainy first half in Houston. Houston won the possession battle but the Revs had a few quality chances (view stats), including this one from Benny Feilhaber on a free kick:

Apparently a lot has happened since the last time New York won in Foxborough...

22 September 9:17 pm

Darrius Barnes' first MLS goal could not have come at a better time for the Revolution. Watch Barnes knock home a 95th-minute header past Red Bulls' goalkeeper Bill Gaudette to equalize for the Revolution and keep their now 16-game unbeaten streak vs. New York at Gillette in tact.

22 September 7:29 pm

We're scoreless at halftime, despite several great chances by the Revs, including one by Jerry Bengtson which found the back of the net but was called back for offsides.  Each side also had an injury substituion, as Flo Lechner left the game with left knee injury (Stephen McCarthy subbed on) and Rafa Marquez left the game for the Red Bulls with a right hamstring injury (Joel Lindpere subbed on).

Red Bulls GK Bill Gaudette has come up big, making three first half saves.
