New England Revolution

13 May 8:21 am

As one who also had a birtnday this week, I know the feeling - sharing your birthday with Mother's Day on some years. But it's an honor really, so don't let anyone tell you different, Bobby and Tyler! I don't think the Revs duo (who turn 25 and 20 years old, respectively) could have asked for a better present than last night's win over Vancouver (Full recap here).

The guys also share their birthday with such notable names as Twilight actor Robert Pattinson, musical legends Stevie Wonder and Ritchie Valens, music non-legend Darius Rucker, actor Harvey Keitel (a.k.a. "The Wolf"), "Colbert Report" host Stephen Colbert, boxer Joe Louis and former NBA bad boy Dennis Rodman. That's a crew I wouldn't mind having lunch with! Well, minus the Twilight guy, anyway (sorry).

Is today your birthday too? If so, happy birthday! And a Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there.

Earlier this afternoon, New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski said he might have to become a soccer goalkeeper after stepping between the pipes at Gillette Stadium. Gronk isn't really thinking of switching professions, however, as the big man was taking part in a Make a Wish Foundation visit with 14-year-old Cole. No word on how many saves were "Gronked" during this visit.

As if you needed another excuse to celebrate on Cinco de Mayo - on this very same day in 1988 - Revolution defender Kevin Alston was born in Washington, D.C.

Other notable birthdays today include Grammy Award Winner Adele (who is also 24), Ann B. Davis ("Alice" on The Brady Bunch), Danielle Fishel (who you may remember as "Topanga" on Boy Meets World), performing artist Craig David, "NBC Nightly News" anchor Brian Williams and 80s sitcom star Tina Youthers. Not a bad bunch!

Now we all know Kevin has had a tough week with the team having three games in eight days and an unfortunate bout with illness. So, if you want to wish Kevin a happy birthday, hit him up on twitter (@KAlston30). And if you are also a Cinco de Mayo baby - happy birthday to you, too.

What do an isthmus, Californium and aspartame all have in common?

Well, not much, really. Except that they were all correct answers which helped Red Card the F.O. – a motley crew made up of Revolution President Brian Bilello, Director of Marketing Cathal Conlon, Account Executive Kyle Lindsay and myself – finish third in last night’s Midnight Riders Trivia Night held at the Pour House on Boylston Street. As much as I’d love to take credit for our solid showing, I have to admit that Bilello (@RevsPrez) was our MVP. Apparently MIT is a decent school or something. I am proud to declare that I, however, was the one who knew which HBO series debuted in 1998 and became the first cable show to win the Emmy for Best Comedy; Sex and the City. Actually, maybe “proud” is the wrong word.

The night wasn’t without late drama as we actually took a five-point lead into the final question of the evening only to be tripped up by which city saw a baseball stadium demolished in 2000 to make way for a football stadium in 2003. Our guess was Cincinnati. The correct answer was Seattle. Alas, victory slipped away at the death.

We actually finished on the podium with a third-place showing, but passed on our prizes to the fourth-place finisher in exchange for the entire bar joining in on a particular chant about not liking D.C. United very much. You know the one. As you can guess, it wasn’t hard to convince everybody.

Of course there were really only winners on the night as it was announced at the end of the event that approximately $7,000 had been raised for Adam Kopoyan, an incredibly brave young boy currently recovering from a traumatic brain injury. You can read more about Adam’s story and you can continue to donate to the cause HERE.

All in all, a fantastic night put on by the Midnight Riders and all for a good cause. Red Card the F.O. will most definitely see you next year … and we’ll be ready.
