New England Revolution legend Luis “El Lobo” Fangoso issued this statement in reaction to the news that Gibraltar has been accepted as a full member of UEFA, European soccer's governing body:

“It is with great pride and satisfaction that I congratulate the Gibraltar Football Association on gaining the official status it has long deserved. Though our old rivalries with the likes of Greenland and Shetland provide some of my happiest sporting memories, we are now in the company that we have long deserved to keep. I am glad that this happened while I am still in my prime and have the hunger. I look forward to receiving a call from the GFA for the next national team training camp.”

A star for club and country, Fangoso, 38, is famous for his flowing locks, his ability to play any outfield position and to adapt to all terrain and field conditions. Since his retirement, El Lobo has run his famed football academy – known as the School of Rock – which has been a consistent, if indirect, funnel for soccer talent from South America to the Iberian peninsula. Fangoso also maintains an off-shore tax law consultancy practice.

The Revolution held its second-annual media game on Wednesday, May 22 on the Gillette Stadium field. Members of the local media participated in several small-sided matches against each other, with Revolution players serving as coaches, and Revolution coaches serving as referees. As you can imagine, head coach, er, referee Jay Heaps was pretty heavy-handed with the cards. Rumor has it Jeff Lemieux was red carded for missing an open net!

All in all it was a great time for everyone. Here are some photos from the event, with video to follow soon.
