Youth Update: U18s fall to St. Louis Scott Gallagher Missouri
HOUSTON – The New England Revolution Under-18 team suffered a 3-1 loss to St. Louis Scott Gallagher Missouri in its third group game of the 2012-13 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Finals Week.
Scott Gallagher’s Conner Sendobry drew first blood in just the sixth minute of play, marking the first time the Revolution had conceded the opening goal during Finals Week. Austin Panchot then doubled St. Louis’ advantage in the 13th minute, while New England struggled to create opportunities in their attacking end.
The Revs’ first shot of the match finally occurred in the 34th minute, but the Scott Gallagher defense cleared ball off the goal line. Then, in the 42nd minute, Zach Herivaux (Brookline, Mass.) pulled one back for New England, assisted by Leandro Alves (Pawtucket, R.I.).
On the other side of the break, St. Louis’ Brian Hail scored in the 47th minute to make it 3-1. Play had continued as the ball bounced off the woodwork, but the assistant referee signaled that it had crossed the line, crediting Scott Gallagher with a game-changing goal. Dominik Machado (Attleboro, Mass.) had a final go for the Revs in the 87th minute, sending his direct free kick over the wall, but the ball dipped too late and it sailed over the crossbar.
With the loss, New England finished the group stage of Finals Week in fourth place in Group 2 with 0 points and a -4 goal differential. In the other group game, Shattucks-Saint Mary’s drew De Anza Force, 2-2, to lead the group with 7 points and a +4 goal differential. De Anza Force finished second with 7 points and a +3, and Scott Gallagher finished in third place with 3 points and a -3.
With a rest day tomorrow, the Under-18s will play their placement game – vying for seventh place overall – against Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday, July 20, at 11 a.m. ET.
