Biography

How Acquired: Selected by the Revolution in the fourth round (48th overall) in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft

A late-draft surprise, Cristman was an impact player from the start of the season … finished second in MLS rookie goal-scoring and second among rookies in assists during his first professional campaign … a finalist for the 2007 MLS Rookie of the Year award, was elevated to the 18-man senior roster in September … in the mix for a roster spot on the 2007 U.S. Olympic (Under-23) Team … led the Revs in preseason scoring, netting five goals and adding four assists in only four games with the team … a strong target forward, Cristman is known for his ability to hold the ball and power past defenders … excelled at the club, high school and youth international levels before moving on to Virginia.

2007: Appeared in 28 games, starting 14 at forward. Was one of three finalists for the 2007 MLS Gatorade Rookie of the Year award. Scored four goals and four assists, both totals second among rookie players. Made his professional debut in the Revs’ season opener at Chicago on April 7, starting up top next to Taylor Twellman. Scored his first professional goal at Los Angeles on May 12, a go-ahead goal early in the second half. Had his first-career two-goal game against Columbus on June 16. In the postseason, made substitute appearances for Pat Noonan in the team’s first three games. Made his first-career postseason appearance, in Game One of the Eastern Conference Semifinal Series in New York on Oct. 27, entering as an 87th minute substitute. Made six appearances with the Revs’ reserve squad, scoring a team-high three goals and adding one assist. Against the Real Salt Lake reserves on July 29, had one goal and one assist. Had two goals, including the game-winner, at the New York reserves on Sept. 22.

COLLEGE: A two-time NSCAA All-South Atlantic Team and All-ACC Team honoree (2005, 2006) … in 2006, helped lead Virginia to the NCAA College Cup for the first time since 1997 … scored 34 career goals, and added 15 career assists, as four-year starter for the Cavs … as a sophomore, earned ACC All-Tournament honors as the Cavaliers won their ninth ACC conference tournament crown … also an ACC All-Freshman Team honoree in 2003 … earned ACC Player of the Week, Soccer America National Player of the Week and College Soccer News National Player of the Week honors after registering the first UVa hat trick in 142 games in a 3-1 victory over Virginia Tech on Oct. 20, 2006.

U.S. NATIONAL TEAM: A member of the U.S. Under-23 (Olympic) Team and is in the player pool for the roster for the 2007 Olympic Games in Beijing … has two international caps with the U23s, both coming during its February 2007 tour of Japan when he led the team with two goals … was named to the team’s roster for its two-game tour of China in December 2007, but suffered a hamstring injury in training camp and was unable to make the trip … a former member of the U.S. Under-17 and Under-18 programs … made six appearances for the U-18s in 2003, scoring one goal.

PERSONAL: Married his wife, Ashley, during the team’s bye weekend over Labor Day in 2007 … son of Clyde and Sandi Cristman ... has one sister, Catherine … finished his degree at Virginia in sports medicine in three-and-a-half years and plans to attend medical school after his playing career … enjoys surfing, mountain biking, listening to music and playing the guitar ... his favorite movie is In God’s Hands ... enjoys cooking, especially Italian cuisine.
